What would New York be without bagels? Slightly more disappointing, that’s what. Bagels are a popular bread unique for their round shape with a hole in the middle. Unlike other breads, bagels get their special texture by being boiled before baking.

However, this bread was originally brought over from Poland and went through a bit of a transformation to become what we know today. Based on Krakover bagels (or Obwarzanki Krakowski in Polish), the original iteration is a twisted, pretzel-like roll.
