5. Chinese Food. Just… All of It
Like Mexican, Chinese food has become a major staple in American gastronomy and is quite popular, judging by the sheer amount of Chinese restaurants scattered throughout the country. But, maybe unsurprisingly, it’s nothing like how it’s prepared in China.

Sweet and Sour Chicken, for example, is a completely original American invention, as are many other staples. The biggest difference between American-Chinese and traditional Chinese is the way the food is mixed together and the amount of sauce used. The sauce is much more heavily applied in restaurants in the US, sometimes to the detriment of the dish, depending on opinions.
